Making a robot Empty
PostSubject: Making a robot   Making a robot Icon_minitimeThu Sep 15, 2011 7:36 pm

It's been decided that full robotic characters will be allowed in the RP. So now the question comes in, how are robots going to be different from people? Because well obviously robots don't really progressively become stronger like people. They follow more of a stepping stone system and strengthen themselves in sporadic leaps, via upgrading. To facilitate this Robots will have two stats that humans do not have, and I will explain how they work.

RAM: The first is RAM, this stat is kinda like the RAM on a computer, it shows how many Installed Parts a robot can have on them at once.
MEM: Short for Memory, this number is how much space you have for Unique Processes.

Now each of those are limits for things but those things are what's really important to the robot so it's time to get a little more in-depth with those.

Installed Parts:Installed parts are essentially equipment, but with a special feature that's only for robots. If a piece of equipment can be installed it will have a RAM cost. The equipment can be used without installing usually, but the RAM effects will not work unless it's installed. Also to install equipment you need to have someone with a high enough engineering and or computer use skill(no roll is actually required., because to install a part a robot must go offline.
--However some parts can be self installed(it will say if it can) these parts usually have a port they can plug into easily and the robot can put them on themselves without going off line. Usually these parts though have a time until the install is complete, where they have to do firmware checks and calibrations.
--There are also some parts that can 'quick install' these parts are either really weak, or uncomplicated, and can be installed in a flash, without shut down, or a boot time. Sometimes self-install parts that are made specifically for a robot can be quick installed by that robot, because their systems already have everything they need.

Unique Processes:Unique processes are essentially abilities and passives. But they have a few key differences that make them special.
--To learn new processes, a robot must visit a mechanic with a skill in programming equal to the difficulty level of the skill(determined by the GM when the move is requested by the player)
--Processes can be leveled up without a mechanic.
--AP is not required for a Process to level up, however, each time the process becomes stronger, the Memory cost of the process increases.
--Processes can be deleted at a mechanic but they temporarily take up half of their original Memory cost for one mission before they're fully deleted.

Leveling Up
Well now it'ts time to discuss how robots level and improve the different things. Skills for a robot work just like with a human, but you can also improve skills by getting programs installed to do it, but these are rare, and they can't be better at the skill than the person making the program when it's made.

Stats: Stats improve only by performing an Overhaul. Overhauls can only be done if an Overhaul kit is acquired. Overhaul kits are one use items that be wasted of the overhaul goes bad. The way it works is that robots have a 'Capacity'. If the robot is at or over their capacity, then an overhaul becomes more and more difficult. If the mechanic fails the overhaul, the kit is wasted, or only a partial overhaul might be done, and you don't get the entire effect of the kit.
---At level 1 Capacity starts at 180, and increases by 10 Every level

RAM and MEM: This is a little complicated, but first their starting values. RAM starts at 35 MEM starts at 50.
--Negative levels: At creation robots can opt for negative levels, which decrease their capacity by 10 to increase either RAM or MEM by 5.
--Level up: Every level a robot can improve RAM or MEM by 5.
--Tuneing: If a RAM or MEM kit is discovered a mechanic can try to tune a robots RAM or MEM, these like overhaul kits can end up only partially working, or failing.

Other Differences
Here is a list of other differences robots have form organics.

*because robots can not be healed with normal items and robot healing items are rare, and they usually can only goto a mechanic for a very costly repair.
--HP for a Robot equals 170+1.5[CON]
--FP for a robot equals 90+{WIL]
*Robots can have 1 construction passive at the start by speaking with the GM. These passives give them a benefit that is passive, but it also gives them a down side, like increased repair cost, or lower stats or any other number of things.
*Robots of course do not need to breath or eat normally, this effects them for good and bad.
*Robots(at least the ones you use as a player) ARE normally water proof, and electric proof, however strong electromagnets can throw off their DEX and PCN, even temporary process scrambling(Amnesia effect)
